IP addresses
Définition : Adresses IP
An IP address is a number that identify a machine.
Every machine connected to the Internet has an IP address.
IPv4, example
192.168.3.200
IPv6, example :
2001:0db8:0000:85a3:0000:0000:ac1f:8001
Attention : Static or dynamic IP
An IP address can be static or dynamic:
only machines with static IP can work as servers
other machines are content consumers only (example : the smartphones)
Complément : IPv4 shortage
Most of the IPv4 addresses are already in use and IPv6 is still not implemented by major actors.
This creates a shortage of static addresses.
